Vincent Van Gogh- Exhibit
In October of 2021, the traveling Vincent Van Gogh exhibit came to Milwaukee and was the perfect opportunity to study and learn about the history of Van Gogh that was not normally explained in school class rooms. The exhibit was showcased in the form of three rooms, each with a different visual experience.
The first room focused on telling the written story of Van Gogh and having these stories written on top of Van Gogh paintings. It was interesting to learn about what lead Van Gogh to become a painter and how his association with religion affected his work. His writing were taken from letters to his brother which also added another personal touch to the whole presentation.

The second room focused on bringing Van Gogh's painting to the most abstract lense possible. It had paintings running of the walls colliding with the doorways in the room, almost making the painting feel alive. It inspired me to think of ways in which I could add to my own art work that would give it more life. The room was a favorite of many, but personally it reminded me of the ways in which art is often appreciated when the artists is not alive to appreciate it.
The third room was definitely the most interesting room. It was a very large open area with several pillars staged in the middle. The entire room was made up of one living projection that ran through a half hour show. It included lots of portraits done by Van Gogh, as well as a sound track that stopped at dispersing moments to have a quote talking about art that related to Van Gogh's work. The room immersed everyone in what it must of felt like to be truly taken aback by the creative genius that was Van Gogh. The room also focused on a theme of aging and thus growing old. Many of his portraits were animated to blink and breathe and other paintings bloomed or exploded as the time went on. People learned about Van Gogh's life and how he was affected by the world around him. It was truly inspirational to learn about a man who started with very little creative experience and grew to be one of the most well known impressionist painters in the world.
